The Guinnmeister is back on form with new video tutorials

The Guinnmeister is back on form with new video tutorials

It wasn’t so long since that we had no choice but to Photoshop an imaginary image of what 3D Robotics future tutorials would look like with Colin Guinn back at the helm of a multicopter marketing team, however, now it’s for real. It’s strange to see Colin no longer being the face of DJI but keeping to form with both a workbench with a logo background and flying on a field whilst demonstrating the IRIS+.  There is a sad loss […]

3D Robotics announces the IRIS+

3D Robotics announces the IRIS+

3D Robotics have announced the new IRIS+ with a YouTube video presented by Colin Guinn. The IRIS+ has a longer flight time than the original IRIS, now claimed at 15 minutes with a gimbal, a 3S 5100mAh battery aids this performance improvement.  The propellers have been changed for a self tightening screw on set, along with a much lighter set of landing legs, similar to designs the community itself has been making.  The official 3DR video shows that arm LEDs […]

3D Robotics IRIS to get enhancements this year

3D Robotics IRIS to get enhancements this year

One of the reasons we’ve not got around to doing a full IRIS review was we wanted to do so with a gimbal of our choosing installed on the IRIS as the 2 Axis Tarot fine though it is, is long in the tooth now in this fast moving industry. So we’ve been holding off to see if 3D Robotics could come up with a solution to the problem users in general were reporting, that once a gimbal was installed […]

APM & Pixhawk gets drift mode – aeroplane style control for multicopters

APM & Pixhawk gets drift mode – aeroplane style control for multicopters

A recent firmware offering has brought a new flight mode, called drift mode which causes the flight controller to take over the yaw, the effect is aeroplane style flying with a single stick. The APM wiki suggests drift mode will be good for: FPV flyers who are looking for a dynamic, plane like flight as well as loiter-like position hold. New flyers who want to try a more intuitive and easy to learn flight mode. Anybody who would like to […]

Installing the 3 axis DYS gimbal on a 3D Robotics IRIS

Installing the 3 axis DYS gimbal on a 3D Robotics IRIS

A young RC hobbyist Ferdinand Loesch has done a detailed tutorial on adding a 3 axis DYS gimbal, currently this is the gimbal IRIS users are opting for when going 3 axis. We found the DYS to be heavy and not to have the best build quality, the wiring in particular being delicate, however, we’ll see what results people get with the gimbal and we’ll reserve judgement for now.
