It has been reported that DJI have bought a stake in Swedish manufacturer Hasselblad that are known for their rather expensive medium format cameras. In recent years Hasselblad has sold upmarket versions of Sony cameras amongst its range. As we speculated in September, DJI have released a handheld gimbal called the OSMO, which comes currently as a package with a camera, the OSMO can also accept the X3 and X5 Zenmuse gimbals from the DJI Inspire. DJI today revealed the X5 and X5R, their first Micro Four Thirds (MFT) camera gimbals, the specifications are very impressive indeed, DJI in releasing these cameras has almost certainly killed off much of the need for expensive big rigs to carry the likes of the Panasonic GH4. On the 22nd July DJI registered the trademark OSMO following on from having submitted the trademark for MATRICE, the OSMO is detailed as being a handheld gimbal with a feature list that suggests it could even have add-ons for underwater use, finally allowing DJI’s camera to take on the GoPro in all conditions.
