Colin “The Guinnmeister” Guinn says goodbye to 3DR!

Today Colin Guinn announced (via LinkedIn) the news that has been on the industry grapevine for some months now, the fact he’s leaving 3D Robotics (or 3DR as they now prefer to be called). Colin and his marketing team at least with 3DR have left on much better terms than they did with DJI which is good news. Colin Guinn is a casualty of 3DR’s decision to leave the consumer drone space and concentrate on enterprise solutions, rumours suggest 3DR’s […]

3DR is dead, long live 3DR!

3DR is dead, long live 3DR!

Spreading around the troll sauce. In recent weeks, forum trolls and at least one blog have been painting a picture of 3DR having failed, shut up shop and closed its door, which even a little research can confirm is far from the truth, in some cases the discussion on 3DR is wishful thinking from fanbois drinking the DJI Kool-Aid; in some cases it’s downright lies and in other cases it’s a negative take on facts that are in the public […]

A must watch multicopter rap review!

A must watch multicopter rap review!

It’s not everyday you see a multicopter review done as a rap, so this video goes down as a must watch for that fact alone. Solo firmware 2.0 delivers multipoint cablecam and more besides

3DR released their new firmware for the Solo over a month before it was due, this delivered the promised functionality shown at CES and more besides, as well as the headline feature which was the multipoint cablecam which has a time lapse mode, also included was orbit with freelook and Airmap integration; thankfully Airmap is information only and doesn’t prevent take off. The multipoint cablecam has already been received with a positive reception from Solo users, allowing for complex moves […]

The latest Solo app update to iOS and Android adds PAL support

The latest 3DR Solo update to the Solo application for mobiles/tablets on iOS and Android now has GoPro controls which include the PAL modes; so whilst flying, modes can be switched between video and stills and the resolution, frame rate and so on can be changed.

Solo firmware 1.3 adds full GoPro control but does not yet include PAL

Solo firmware 1.3 adds full GoPro control but does not yet include PAL

This week 3DR released the iOS and Android apps to take advantage of the last Solo Arducopter release which finally allows control of the GoPro in flight to change settings such as shutter speed.  This release only offers NTSC settings with PAL settings to come in a future update, hopefully fairly soon. Recent firmware releases have seen improvements to the GPS, the video transmission range, to the gimbal and to the handling in flight. We haven’t used the latest firmware […]
